I took a couple clients of mine to Charlestown today to look at single family homes there. Now, I know Charlestown real estate really well but it still amazes me what value you get by just crossing over the Charles River. We looked at homes in the 1600-1900 sq. ft. range between $500,000 and $750,000. Yes, you heard that right, you can get a single family home with 3 bedrooms and 2 or more bathrooms in Boston for well under a million dollars. Many of these homes were completely gut renovated within the last 5 years and include beautiful Sub-Zero, Miele, and GE Profile appliances.
One thing you won’t find though, is parking. Only 1 of the dozen or so homes we saw came with parking. However, I never had to park more than half a block from the homes we were visiting during the tour. There were plenty of street spaces even with all the snow.
Charlestown has a lot to do within it’s narrow streets including Todd English’s world famous Olives restaurant and the historic Navy Yard which has it’s own luxury condos and homes.
So if you are looking for that Beacon Hill or Back Bay charm but don’t have the wallet to afford it, Charlestown is a perfect alternative.
