West End
Boston’s West End is home to Government Center, Massachusetts General Hospital, and one of they city’s most famous landmarks, Faneuil Hall. The West End is bounded by the Charles River to the west and northwest, Cambridge Street to the south, and Martha Road to the north.
In the 1950s, the original neighborhood—which was more residential than today’s—was completely leveled to make way for “urban renewal.” This allowed for the building of what is now Government Center.
Most of the West End’s residential real estate is found in one complex called Charles River Park. This consists of 42 acres of both rental and condominium mid- and high-rises. Also in Charles River Park are some of the most affordable buildings in the city.
