Outdoor Festivals and Events

Boston Harborfest:

Celebrate America's Independence with one of the nation's largest Fourth of July festivals. Boston Harborfest includes historical reenactments, concerts, and a spectacular fireworks display over the harbor. Don't miss the annual Chowderfest, where you can sample some of the best clam chowder Boston has to offer.

North End Feasts:

Experience the rich Italian heritage of Boston's North End through its famous summer feasts. These lively street festivals include parades, live music, delicious food, and traditional religious ceremonies. The Feast of Saint Anthony and the Feast of Saint Agrippina are two highlights not to be missed.

Family-Friendly Activities

Boston Public Garden:

Take a leisurely stroll through America's first public botanical garden. Enjoy a swan boat ride on the lagoon, explore the beautifully landscaped grounds, and don't forget to visit the Make Way for Ducklings statues, a favorite among children.

Franklin Park Zoo:

Spend a day at the zoo, home to hundreds of animal species from around the world. Special summer programs include animal encounters, zookeeper talks, and themed events that are sure to delight the entire family.

Frog Pond at Boston Common:

Cool off at the Frog Pond, where kids can splash around in the spray pool, and families can relax on the surrounding lawn. The Frog Pond also hosts free yoga classes and movie nights under the stars during the summer.

Food and Drink Festivals

SoWa Open Market:

Every Sunday, the SoWa Open Market transforms the South End into a bustling hub of artisans, farmers, food trucks, and musicians. Here, you can browse unique handmade goods, sample delicious eats, and enjoy live performances in a vibrant, community-oriented atmosphere.

Arts and Culture

Free Summer Concerts:

Enjoy free outdoor concerts at the Hatch Shell on the Charles River Esplanade. The Boston Landmarks Orchestra and the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra offer performances ranging from classical music to contemporary hits, all set against the scenic backdrop of the Charles River.

Outdoor Movie Screenings:

The Park's Movie Nights are part of the Boston Parks and Recreation Department’s ParkARTS program. Held in August, the shows begin at dusk.

The Mayor's Office of Tourism, Sports, and Entertainment offers additional support to the series' hosts, the Boston Parks and Recreation Department, and title sponsor Bank of America.  Free popcorn will be provided while supplies last.

Movies will have the closed captions visible on-screen where available.

Public Art Installations:

Explore Boston's vibrant art scene with outdoor installations and sculptures located throughout the city. The Rose Kennedy Greenway, in particular, features rotating exhibits and interactive art pieces that are perfect for a summer stroll.
