About Dorchester

Dorchester (colloquially referred to as Dot) is a neighborhood in the City of Boston, Massachusetts.

An area with rich history, and originally a separate town, Dorchester was annexed to Boston in 1870 and is now Boston's largest neighborhood.

Dorchester is a cultural melting pot. It’s filled with diverse and thriving families, active community organizations and some really great restaurants. Local residents have a fierce love for their neighborhood and take great pride in its upkeep.

Downtown Boston is just a 5.5 mile drive, and is also accessible via the Red “T” Line, making it a great place to live for those who commute for work.

Dorchester Real Estate

Dorchester is one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Boston for buyers due to a high volume of inventory and the variety of housing available.

It’s also an attractive place to live thanks to the community involvement in the area, and the reasonable prices compared to other neighborhoods in the city.

Dorchester contains a wide variety of home types. From triple-deckers to Victorian mansions, and everything new and old in between, Dorchester has something for just about anyone.

Popular areas include Ashmont and Cedar Grove, the most southerly areas of the neighborhood on the Red Line with new restaurants, bars, cafes, and a vibrant community. The Washington Street and Upham’s Corner areas are also worth keeping an eye on, as they are rapidly being redeveloped.

Things To Do In Dorchester

Residents of Dorchester will never be short of exciting things to do in their spare time.

For lovers of the outdoors, there are lots of parks scattered throughout the community. These provide locals with access to walking paths, picnic areas, kids playgrounds, soccer fields and much more.

Perhaps the most popular park in the area is Franklin Park. This large natural area offers lots of open green space, a highly-rated zoo, as well as a golf course and other sports courts.

Dorchester is also home to Carson Beach, a beautiful sandy South Shore beach. It’s a great place to come for swimming and sunbathing during the warm summer months.

Dorchester is home to one of Boston’s most popular tourist attractions, the JFK Presidential Library and Museum. A visit here allows you to step back into the recreated world of the 1960s and experience exhibits recounting President Kennedy's thousand days in office. The library is housed in a striking building, and sits on the waterfront providing panoramic views of Boston's skyline and Harbor Islands.

Thanks to the diverse population, Dorchester is jam-packed with global cuisines. Whether you’re in search of a Polish donut, pho, Jamaican food or an Irish bar - you’ll find exactly what you’re craving in Dorchester. Some of the most popular places amongst locals include Dbar, Ashmont Grill, Yellow Door Taqueria and the Bowery Bar.

And, of course, living in Dorchester means you can visit Boston any time you wish - so whether you want to see the Red Sox, stroll through the Boston Common or visit the Harpoon Brewery, the city is yours to discover!
